Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Criminal Solicitor to support our growing practice on a flexible freelance basis. The role involves police station attendance, Magistrates’ Court advocacy, and general criminal casework. Candidates must be available to cover London, Essex, and Kent, where most of our instructions arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend police stations (including out-of-hours) to provide representation under the Police Station Accreditation Scheme.
• Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court: first appearances, bail applications, pleas, case management hearings, and sentencing.
• Represent Legal Aid and private clients with professionalism and care.
• Prepare cases, draft legal documents, and liaise with clients, counsel, experts, and external agencies.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional standards.

Requirements

• Qualified Criminal Solicitor with experience in criminal defence.
• Police Station Accreditation (or eligibility/willingness to become accredited).
• Strong Magistrates’ Court advocacy experience.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality client service.
• Excellent communication and client-care skills.
• Availability to cover London, Essex, and Kent, with occasional travel beyond these areas.
• Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where required.
